Step 2 · The role
You will serve as the principal staff officer and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all safety matters within the unit, supporting the Commanding Officer in fostering a strong safety culture. You are responsible for planning, implementing and enforcing the unit's Safety Management System to ensure training readiness and the achievement of high safety standards within the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). Responsibilities - Serve as the principal safety advisor to the Unit Commanding Officer, planning and managing the Unit Safety Workplan and ensuring compliance with safety policies and directives - Govern and maintain the unit's Safety Management System, including the development of safety policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), audits and follow-up actions arising from inspections and reviews - Conduct safety inspections, audits and ground sensing activities, enforce safety standards and provide oversight of high-risk training and operational activities - Lead safety incident reporting, investigations and trend analysis to identify risks, implement preventive measures and strengthen risk management practices - Develop and deliver safety education programmes, workshops and awareness initiatives to promote a positive safety culture and encourage hazard and near-miss reporting Challenge(s) - Balancing safety compliance and enforcement while supporting operational and training objectives, ensuring consistent adherence to safety standards across training units and personnel - Sustaining safety culture and competencies amidst personnel turnover and varying levels of experience - Maintaining effective oversight of high-risk training activities and timely implementation of corrective measures arising from incidents, audits and inspections Requirements - Education in fields of Safety Management, Occupational Health and Safety is preferred - Experience in safety management, risk management, training safety or workplace safety governance is advantageous - Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving capabilities - Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence personnel across all organisational levels - Detail-oriented with strong observation skills and the ability to identify safety risks and improvement opportunities - Ability to support field activities and conduct regular ground engagements and inspections in a training environment (Applicants with no experience may apply.)
