You review and formulate National Service (NS) policies on resource allocation and deployment of full-time national servicemen (NSFs), ensuring optimal deployment of NS resources to meet critical operational and manpower needs. Responsibilities - Develop and review policies governing the allocation, deployment and management of national servicemen to ensure sufficiency of NS resources for defence needs while upholding an equitable and fair NS system - Review and administer the Enlistment Act and subsidiary legislation, including policies on offences, bonds, exit controls, and citizenship-related NS liabilities - Use manpower data, demographic developments, and socio-economic trends to develop evidence-based policy recommendations while balancing competing demands - Evaluate cases that fall outside standard policy guidelines, exercise sound judgement and develop recommendations that are consistent with the intent and principles of NS - Work closely with various stakeholders and other government agencies to strengthen policy recommendations, implement NS policies effectively and maintain public confidence in the NS system Challenge(s) - Making robust recommendations to balance competing demands with limited resources - Evaluating and making decisions on cases that deviate from policy guidelines - Communicating effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including pre-enlistees, servicemen, family members, and employers Requirements - Education in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Social Sciences, Political Science, History, Public Policy or a related field is preferred - Relevant experience in public policy, national issues or data-driven decision-making is preferred - Sound judgement with the ability to consider different perspectives and balance competing priorities - Strong written and verbal communication skills - Ability to research issues, identify emerging trends, and develop practical recommendations - Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with stakeholders across different organisations (Applicants with no experience may apply.)
