Step 2 · The role

Research and AnalysisData Analysis & Data Mgtfull-timedirector

You manage and oversee the Republic of Singapore Air Force's (RSAF) defence relations with selected foreign Air Forces. You formulate and vet policy papers and proposals to facilitate decision making by senior MINDEF/RSAF management, and nurture and guide Policy Officers under your charge. Responsibilities - Sense-make and contribute to the development of Defence Relations (DR) strategies to engage key RSAF partners - Work across relevant offices on matters assessed to have a DR impact beyond the Air Force level - Provide MINDEF principals with necessary information for key issues to be raised beyond the Air Force level to advance the RSAF's interests - Maintain oversight of existing partnerships and collaborative activities to ensure they remain relevant and sustainable based on the RSAF's capacity and requirements - Develop approaches and initiatives with foreign partners to meet the RSAF's interests - Oversee the management and coordination of bilateral forums between the RSAF and strategic partners, securing the RSAF's interests through these avenues and cascading key meeting outcomes for implementation Challenge(s) - Understanding the geopolitical sensitivities of the RSAF's engagements with strategic partners - Having a good appreciation of the RSAF's interests beyond DR and training into operations and technology to develop an effective engagement strategy - Balancing the advancement of DR with foreign partners while safeguarding the RSAF's interests - Weighing appropriate resources and priorities against an anticipated increase in demands from partners to ensure DR intent is met without compromising the RSAF's overall interests Requirements - Education in International Relations, Political Science, or a related Humanities is preferred - At least 6 years of relevant experience in international or defence relations, with prior research experience and knowledge of a foreign language being an advantageous - Strong command of English with the ability to think critically and analyse complex geopolitical developments - Good interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse groups - Ability to drive workstreams independently, with strong leadership qualities to guide and nurture staff Only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
