Step 2 · The role

EngineeringScience, Engineering & Technicaltemporarymanager

As Singapore prepares for rising sea levels, coastal protection presents an opportunity to rethink how we plan, develop and safeguard our industrial estates for generations to come. Join JTC’s Coastal Protection Division, where you will work at the intersection of engineering, infrastructure planning, policy, digital innovation and project delivery to develop practical and forward-looking solutions for Singapore’s industrial coastline. Responsibilities You will be involved in a diverse range of work, from shaping long-term coastal protection strategies and policies to planning and delivering critical infrastructure. Key areas of work include: • Industrial Coastal Masterplanning and Infrastructure Planning: Develop long-term coastal protection masterplans for industrial estates, integrating coastal protection needs with land-use planning, industrial redevelopment and lease renewal strategies. Plan the timely implementation of infrastructure while balancing land, resource and operational constraints. • Policy and Strategy Development: Contribute to developing policies, implementation frameworks and funding approaches to support coastal protection works. Work with government agencies and industries to translate national coastal protection objectives into practical implementation strategies. • Digital Innovation and Resource Planning: Develop digital solutions to support coastal infrastructure planning and management, including tracking infrastructure inventories, land lease milestones, project implementation timelines and long-term resource requirements. Explore the use of data analytics and digital tools to improve planning, coordination and decision-making. • Engineering and Infrastructure Development: Plan and deliver coastal protection infrastructure from concept to completion. Evaluate engineering solutions using technical assessments such as geotechnical investigations, hydrodynamic and flood modelling, and environmental impact studies. Manage consultants and contractors to deliver safe, cost-effective and sustainable infrastructure. • Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration: Work closely with government agencies, industrial companies and technical specialists to resolve complex engineering, policy and implementation challenges, particularly where coastal protection works interface with existing industrial operations. You will have the opportunity to contribute not only to individual infrastructure projects, but also to the broader strategies, systems and capabilities that will shape how Singapore implements coastal protection over the coming decades. Requirements • Background in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. • Experience or interest in infrastructure planning, engineering, policy development, project implementation or digital solutions. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to approach complex challenges from both technical and strategic perspectives. • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams. • Experience in coastal or marine engineering, drainage, land reclamation, geotechnical engineering, hydrodynamic modelling, environmental impact assessment or stakeholder engagement would be an advantage.
