You will join the core team behind the Phoenix LLM – a family of Sovereign AI models trained right here in Singapore. We are a dynamic team of Applied AI Engineers building state-of-the-art sovereign Large Language Models (LLMs) and Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) from the ground up. More about our work: http://go.gov.sg/phoenix-launch and https://arxiv.org/abs/2605.10391 In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to push the frontier of Sovereign AI while collaborating on joint Applied R&D projects with global AI labs. You will have access to large GPU clusters for distributed AI training. In this role, you are the bridge between the core research team and our users - you guide our LLMs on how it behaves and engage with the developers and users who use it. You shape the model's identity and safety behaviour through evaluation and fine-tuning, then publish our models, datasets and code with the documentation that tells developers what the model does well and where its limits are and you work alongside our Technical Product Manager. Responsibilities Product Releases and developer community: • Publish model weights and datasets on platforms like HuggingFace, through our release clearance process • Jointly write the model card and technical blog post with the Product Manager for each launch • Write best-practice guides and run developer days for the agency’s engineers and the wider AI community Model alignment and behaviour: • Define how our LLMs should behave, including its identity, tone, refusals and honesty, and turn that into written guidelines and training data • Build behaviour and safety evaluations, and track them across model checkpoints • Run post-training experiments (SFT, RL, etc) to correct behaviour • Provide alignment results to advise launch decisions Requirements • Minimally Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field, or equivalent experience • Able to explain complex technical concepts (for example the capabilities and limitations of the models) to both engineers and non-technical users • Hands-on experience building with LLMs (beyond just using a commercial chatbot) • Keen to learn and experiment in a fast-paced Applied AI R&D environment Good to have: • Clear technical writing, shown in a portfolio, for example: research papers, technical linkedin/blog posts, model cards, documentation, a thesis or talks • Models or datasets you have published on Hugging Face, or an open source project you contributed to • Experience with designing benchmarks or evaluations for LLMs • Talks, workshops or published papers (main, workshop and industry tracks all count) We encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every point above. Applicants with 5 or more years of relevant experience will be considered for senior roles. **** All new hires are appointed on a two-year contract in the first instance and will be assessed and considered for permanent tenure over time, based on performance. As part of the shortlisting process for this role, you may be required to complete a medical declaration and/or undergo further assessment. All applicants will be updated on the status of their applications within 4 weeks upon closing of the advertisement.
