Step 2 · The role
The Information Programme Centre at DSTA develops cutting-edge software solutions that harness information to empower the SAF to fight smarter and faster on the battlefield. We are seeking motivated and innovative Software Engineers to develop applications that monitor, detect, and characterise RF activity across the spectrum. As a key member of the team, you will be build advanced signal analysis applications that leverage an RF processing pipeline to transform raw In-phase/Quadrature data into actionable signal insights. These applications detect emitters, classify signal types, and identify anomalies in near-real-time, enabling mission-critical decision-making. Responsibilities • Solution Design: Translate complex use cases into robust solution designs and detailed technical specifications. • Application Development: Develop and optimise applications for RF signal processing and analysis. • Continuous Improvement: Continuously enhance software applications to improve user experience while supporting mission-critical objectives. • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including infrastructure and cybersecurity teams, to ensure successful project delivery. Requirements • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. • Proficient in software engineering with experience in Java, Python or other modern programming languages. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset. Preferred Technical Skills • Good understanding of wireless communication concepts, including RF transmission, antenna systems, propagation, modulation, and signal decoding). • Understanding of RF signal representation and processing fundamentals such as Fast Fourier Transform, filtering and sampling theory. Knowledge in array processing is an advantage. • Experience processing digital signals represented as In-phase/Quadrature data and time series data to extract meaningful information. • Experience applying machine learning techniques to RF signal processing is an advantage. • Proficiency in GIT version control. • Expertise in software design principles, including code modularity and maintainability. • Experience with containerisation technologies (e.g. Docker) • Experience developing or deploying applications using microservices architecture. • Experience with stream processing technologies (e.g. Kafka) Why join us? As a Software Engineer for RF applications, you will have the creative freedom and technical autonomy to develop software solutions that address real-world challenges. You will have the opportunity to build software and algorithms that will help us understand the potential threats to Singapore. The software that you develop will have a lasting impact on Singapore’s long-term defence and security. At DSTA, you will work with modern tech stacks and benefit from the guidance of experienced mentors within the Information community, continuously strengthening your technical expertise. You will have opportunities to learn from and collaborate with like-minded engineers across the Information community and partner institution overseas on capability development.
