The Trade and International Economic Relations (TIER) cluster drives the formulation of Singapore's foreign economic policy and advances Singapore's economic interests in the international economic arena. MTI’s International Trade Division (ITD) is charged with protecting and advancing Singapore’s economic interests by: * Supporting free trade and open markets; * Upholding and strengthening the rules-based multilateral trading system as embodied in the World Trade Organisation (WTO); * Deepening economic integration with like-minded countries through free trade agreements (FTA) and bilateral investment treaties (BIT); * Driving initiatives in regional economic fora such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC); and * Advancing our companies’ interests abroad rigorously, including by lowering barriers for Singapore exports Responsibilities Responsibilities As an ITD officer, you will be assigned to one of four specialised teams covering trade in goods, digital economy and services, investment, or multilateral trade policy. You will deepen your knowledge, skills and expertise on a myriad of international trade issues and apply them in the following areas: * Developing and implementing Singapore’s foreign economic policy; * Representing Singapore in bilateral/multilateral trade and investment negotiations; * Participating in international meetings and conferences; * Providing advice to the Singapore Government on trade policy matters; * Collaborating with external stakeholders, such as Singapore-based companies, business chambers and the general public; * Ensuring Singapore’s full and timely implementation of international trade obligations; and * Analysing international developments and their potential implications on Singapore Requirements Requirements * Trained in Economics, Law, Political Science, International Relations, Accounting, Business or related disciplines is preferred, but not essential * Keen interest in international economic affairs and negotiation; * Strong analytical and conceptual abilities, with an eye for detail; * Excellent written and oral communication skills; * Ability to work well in teams and in a fast-paced and dynamic environment; and * Willingness to travel frequently
