Vehicle and Weapon Systems lead the exploration and adoption of technologies on vehicular platforms, weapon systems, and armament to support the Home Team in tactical operations on the ground. Combining innovation and technical expertise, we design and customise robust platforms integrated with cutting-edge technologies to respond to emergencies, deter and disrupt threats with better precision and speed. You will lead efforts to identify, develop, trial and assess automation solutions such as autonomous vehicles, vehicle platooning, robotics and fleet management systems that can augment Home Team capabilities and improve operational efficiency. The role addresses key challenges in the Home Team such as a declining manpower pool, rising demand for personnel, repetitive or cognitively intensive tasks, and exposure to hazardous environments. Success in this role requires one who is passionate for technology, and effective in working with multiple stakeholders to integrate various technologies in diverse home team environments. As Lead Engineer / Engineer working in Intelligent Automation Systems, Vehicle and Weapon Systems COE, you will be reporting to the Head of Intelligent Automation Systems. Responsibilities Responsibilities The job-holder will be responsible for the following: • Partner Home Team Departments to identify pain points and key operational/strategic challenges and constraints that can potentially be alleviated through automation. • Identify potential automation solutions for the various use cases, and determine if there are commercial off the shelf (COTS) solutions available or if bespoke engineering development is required. • Plan and conduct proof-of-concept trials to assess the ability of the solutions to meet the identified use cases, and to determine the way ahead upon completion of the trials (eg., to operationalise the system or to do further development or to wait for the technology to mature) • Understand and apply the technical references for the public deployment of autonomous vehicles and robotics, and the requirements to clear the relevant authorities, such as LTA. • Technology scouting to keep abreast of the latest developments in robotics and vehicle autonomy technologies. • Continuous upgrading, acquiring, and implementing new knowledge and capabilities on emerging trends that can force multiply the home team. Requirements Job requirements • Good honours degree in Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics/Systems Automation Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering or any other relevant degrees. • Preferably with at least 3 years (Engineer) / 6 years (Lead Engineer) of relevant working experiences in system integration, vehicle development, autonomous or robotics applications. • Innovative and willingness to learn new skills and to expand into new domains. • Independent and pro-active problem solver • Effective verbal and written communication skills for engaging with stakeholders at various levels. • Strong project management skillset will be advantageous. All new appointees will be appointed on a two-year contract in the first instance.
