The Trade and International Economic Relations (TIER) cluster drives the formulation of Singapore's foreign economic policy and safeguards Singapore's economic interests in the international economic arena. The South Asia, Middle East and Africa Division (SAMEA) is a division within TIER that develops and implements policies aimed at growing Singapore's economic relations with over 70 countries in these regions. The job scope includes leading initiatives such as bilateral platforms, pursuing economic agreements, and staffing of Ministerial visits. As part of SAMEA Division, the India Directorate works on strengthening and broadening Singapore’s economic engagement with India, which is one of the world’s largest and fastest growing economies, a key trade partner of Singapore, and a significant market for our companies. The Directorate works with fellow Singapore government agencies to design, pitch and implement mutually beneficial partnership projects with India in sectors such as Advanced Manufacturing, Civil Aviation, Food, Industrial Parks, Nursing, Pharmaceuticals, Skilling, and Sustainability. Beyond India’s Centre government, the Directorate also works closely with many Indian State governments. Responsibilities • Formulate policies to grow two-way trade, investment and people flows with India • Lead the workstreams under the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable, the key bilateral G2G platform between India and Singapore • Negotiate and implement trade agreements and MOUs with India, such as the India-Singapore Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement, MOUs in Semiconductors, Skilling, and Science & Technology • Develop and implement strategies that increase cooperation with India in new areas to create downstream opportunities for Singapore companies • Promote Singapore’s economic engagement of India through supporting regular visits, meetings and cooperation between Singapore and India Requirements • A field of study in related disciplines such as, but not only, Economics, Political Science, International Relations • Curious about economic development, international relations and the emerging markets, particularly in South Asia, Africa and/or Middle East • Energised by a fast-paced, challenging environment • Good writing, analytical and communication skills • Independent, imaginative, energetic, tenacious and resourceful • Strong team player
